Virginia Tech Makes the Top 5 for Three-Star DT Bryson Williams

The Virginia Tech Hokies may already have two defensive tackle commits from three-star recruits Cam Goode and Joe Kane, but VT isn't done yet as they are looking to add at least one more DT to their 2018 class. The Hokies have cast a wide net across the country at DT and have gotten some mutual interest from one recruit out on the Great Plains. Three-star DT Bryson Williams from Lincoln, Nebraska released his top 5 which included Virginia Tech, Iowa, Kansas State, Duke, and Iowa State. Williams's offer list is headlined by those power 5 schools while he definitely won't be a concern for admission wherever he goes with multiple Ivy League offers along with offers from 2 of the service academies. Williams is one of the top recruits in Nebraska as 247 Sports has him as the state's second-best recruit and the 247 Sports Composite has him as the third-best recruit. Williams is also ranked as the 49th best DT by 247 Sports and the 66th DT by the 247 Sports Composite. Williams recently received his Hokies' offer while visiting Virginia Tech with that offer pushing the Hokies into contention for his commitment. The Hokies rarely have recruitrd guys from the Great Plains region, but with Williams coming across the country to visit VT, it's clear the Hokies at least have a shot with him. It will be challenging for the Hokies going against schools that are much closer to home with some recent success like Iowa and Kansas State who on paper appear to be the favorites. Matt Campbell has also brought a lot of youthful energy to the recruiting trail since taking over in Ames, helping the Cyclones be more competitive in some recruiting battles you wouldn't expect them to be competitive in. Virginia Tech definitely has a shot with Bryson Williams, but will have a lot of work ahead to convince Williams to leave Nebraska to go cross-country to Blacksburg.
