There may not be a bigger target for Virginia Tech in the 2022 class than five-star OL Gunner Givens out of nearby Lord Botetourt HS with the Hokies emerging as a top contender. Unsurprisingly, the Hokies also made the top 6 for the elite offensive tackle recruit.

Tech was joined by Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, and North Carolina in what is an absolutely loaded top 6 for Givens. His top 6 eliminates some major programs who made his top 12 in Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina, and Oklahoma with only 3 conferences represented now after four were represented in his previous top 6.
Givens is as must-get of an in-state superstar recruit as there has been for Virginia Tech as it's rare that we've seen a four-star let alone a five-star recruit from Tech's backyard in Southwest Virginia. Additionally, the Hokies have had recent recruiting success at Givens' high school landing offensive lineman Jesse Hanson in their 2019 class.
Tech also should have a great offensive line case to make with the growth of guys like Christian Darrisaw and the whole unit into NFL caliber player and potentially even a first round pick or 2. Combine that with the potential to earn significant early playing time and have a chance to start very early on in his VT career, and the Hokies have plenty of good angles in Givens' recruitment.
Of course, the competition is tough as it could come with three of the best programs currently in the country in Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio State headlining the challengers for the Hokies. However, this is a case where the Hokies have the type of home turf that they have to defend even more than almost anywhere else in Virginia.
For now, the Hokies are right among the top contenders for five-star OL Gunner Givens as Tech looks to land him as the face of a 2022 recruiting cycle resurgence.
