Virginia Tech's tight end board has started to come into focus though some of those targets are farther away. However, the Hokies are showing lots of interest in a tight end not too far away from Blacksburg with an offer potentially on the horizon.
Four-star TE Javonte Vereen out of Havelock, North Carolina told us that he has been receiving a "pretty good amount of interest from Virginia Tech."
Currently, it's been Tech's top recruiting staff leading the charge with Vereen in Mike Villagrana and Lino Lupinetti with Vereen having this to say about how those conversations have been going.
"It’s been good. We've been talking about the school and the way they could use me in their offense, and we've building a relationship," Vereen said.
The overall message from Virginia Tech has been to "just keep working hard" with Vereen seeing his hard work pay off so far in 2022. He's seen his offer list explode with new offers from Louisville, Boston College, Duke, and Maryland among those received in 2022 with N.C. State and Georgia among those who were on his offer list prior to 2022.
This shouldn't come as a surprise as Vereen had a huge junior season according to MaxPreps with 31 catches for 985 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in only 10 games. That includes an insane 31.8 yards per reception that certainly turned a whole lot of heads at Power 5 programs across the country.
Vereen also feels that a Virginia Tech offer isn't too far away telling us that he feels the Hokies are "very close" to extending him an offer.
Looking ahead, Vereen has a long list of schools that he's planning to visit including Virginia Tech.
"There's a lot: NC State, Louisville, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, UNC, Duke, VT, Virginia, Tennessee, WVU, Michigan, and Maryland," Vereen said.
Keep an eye on Javonte Vereen as Virginia Tech continues to show lots of interest in the talented four-star TE out of North Carolina.
