Three-star WR Lamar Booker Jr out of Varina HS in the Richmond area has emerged as one of the top wide receivers in Virginia in a 2024 class full of WR talent in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The good news for the Hokies is that they are in a good position currently in his recruitment.
Booker told us Virginia Tech and Duke are the "main ones" currently standing out for him adding that he will be visiting VT for their Big Dawg Junior Day on January 23rd followed by a trip to Duke for a junior day on January 28th.
He had this to say about why the Hokies are currently standing out for him.
"The coaches and the love I feel whenever my family and I go on a visit is always great," Booker said. "They also make me feel needed not (just) wanted."
WRs coach Fontel Mines is leading Tech's pursuit of the Richmond area standout WR with Booker having this to say aboutbhis relationship with Mines.
"I feel like our relationship is really good," Booker said. "I just feel really comfortable around him and I could definitely see him as my coach."
Booker has built up a solid offer list that in addition to VT and Duke, includes Penn State, Boston College, UVA, and more.
So what has made Booker a WR target for several Power 5 East Coast schools? He had this to say about the strengths and weaknesses of his game.
"I would say my strengths would definitely be my speed, strength, and size. My weakness would just be finishing through contact," Booker said.
Looking ahead, Booker had a decision timeline coming up soon but is now thinking about delaying a little as he told us.
"I was going to try to make my decision on the 24th on February but as of right now, I might wait a little longer," Booker said.
When he does make his decision, he does have an idea of what the key factor will be for him.
"How comfortable I feel at whatever school I choose," Booker said.
The Hokies are in a good position currently for three-star WR Lamar Booker Jr with a great chance to cement their frontrunner status on Monday.
