In what seemed like a chalk-in win for Louisville on paper, the Cardinals' 28-16 win over Virginia Tech didn’t come as easy as some may have expected. At the end of the first half, the Hokies were leading 16-7 on the back of two touchdowns and a blocked punt for the safety.
Things took a turn for the Hokies as they couldn’t respond to the Cardinals’ offensive surge, scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half.
Some may not buy into moral victories, and they aren’t actual wins on the record; however, there are positives to take away from Tech’s first half.
“I'm really proud of our football team and the way they battled and the way they continue to grow, continue to stay together” interim head coach Phillip Montgomery on the loss against No. 16 Louisville. “I mean, that's the number 16 team in the country. We give them everything they can handle."
