Julian Fleming has emerged as a consensus top 15 recruit with three of the four major recruiting rankings having Fleming in their top 5 nationally in the 2020 class. Today, Fleming released his top 10 with Virginia Tech making the cut for the elite Pennsylvania WR.

The Hokies were one of two ACC teams to make the cut for Fleming along with Clemson. Additionally, regional Big 10 powers like Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan made the cut along with multiple SEC schools and USC.
Virginia Tech's interest in the elite WR started when VT offered the future five-star WR at midfield before the Hokies faced Clemson in 2017. Fleming visited the Hokies over the summer and came away impressed with what he saw along with the conversation he had with Justin Fuente.

After that visit, Virginia Tech made the top 6 for Julian Fleming a few weeks later. However, Fleming formally reopened his recruitment fully with the six schools that made his original cut making his top 10.
Most consider in-state Penn State the favorite with Fleming making multiple visits to State College including one less than two weeks ago. In addition, the Nittany Lions are the heavy frontrunner according to the 247 Sports Crystal Ball while Ohio State is also seen as a major contender.
The Hokies shouldn't be ruled out as a potential contender for Fleming in part given the strong impressions they've left on him in the past. However, it will be extremely important for the Hokies to get Fleming on campus sometime this spring as they hope to continue to be a major player in his recruitment.
Virginia Tech is a relevant contender for Fleming as the Hokies have once again made the cut for the top wide receiver in the 2020 class.

Nationally, Fleming is ranked as the third best 2020 recruit in the country by 247 Sports and ESPN, fifth best by the 247 Sports Composite, and 15th best by Rivals. Among 2020 wide receivers, Fleming is ranked as the best WR by 247 Sports, ESPN, and the 247 Sports Composite; and the second best WR by Rivals.
