At Virginia Tech, Ford broke six school records during his career. He became the all-time leader for receptions in both a career and single season, receiving yards in both a career and single season, and receiving touchdowns in both a career and single season.
Ford graduated in 2016, and two of those records were broken just a year later by teammate Cam Phillips. However, Ford still holds the single season receptions record with 79 in 2016, the single season receiving yards record with 1,164 in 2015, the career touchdown receptions record with 24, and the single season touchdown receptions record with 11 in 2015.
The Dolphins selected Ford in the 7th round of the 2017 season, but he spent the whole year on IR with torn meniscus. Ford did appear in one game last season, but he struggled to cement himself onto the roster.
After a somewhat shaky start to his professional career, Ford is excited to finally get his opportunity.
“I’m excited,” Ford told the Sun Sentinel. “Any time you get promoted to the 53 [man roster] and get to play on Sundays, it’s a great opportunity. I just want to continue on the good days I’ve had and try to do everything I can to help this team win.”
This preseason, Ford appeared in all 4 games. He tallied 102 receiving yards and averaged 14.6 yards per reception. Virginia Tech fans can watch Ford and the Dolphins take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at 1 pm.
