It’s the first time Basile has been awarded with the honor. He’s the second Hokie to claim ACC Player of the Week this season as Justyn Mutts earned the award December 5th.
Basile was dominant in both Tech triumphs, averaging 24.5 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for the Hokies. At 24.5 points per game in two contests, Basile led all scorers in the ACC this past week in points per game.
Basile did big time work on the glass as well, notching four offensive rebounds against Syracuse and grabbing eight total boards against a Duke team with plenty of size.
Overall, Basile scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and recorded two blocks vs the Blue Devils. Additionally, he scored 25 points with eight rebounds and five assists vs the Orange. Basile was efficient in both contests, coming in at 66.7% on 10-15 shooting vs Duke and 11-23 shooting for 47.8% vs Syracuse.
In both games, Basile flashed his versatile scoring package, using his size on the glass and along the interior to punish both the Blue Devils and the Orange.
With 24 points against Duke and 25 points against Syracuse, those mark Basile’s third and fourth highest scoring performances of the season. His highest to date came in the Hokies opening win vs Delaware State while Basile’s 26 points versus Syracuse in the JMA Wireless Dome was his second highest.
Basile is averaging 14.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals on the season. He’s second on the team in scoring and rebounding as well as first in blocked shots per game. While the graduate transfer from Wright State has had some lulls to go along with the rest of the team, Basile is leaving no doubt that his best play is right now.
