Virginia Tech made a major splash in the transfer portal this evening as Wake Forest WR Donavon Greene has committed to the Hokies according to Evan Watkins and Kolby Crawford of 247 Sports' VT Scoop.

Greene is the 17th transfer addition for the Hokies including the second wide receiver transfer along with Tennessee's Cameron Seldon, who was a RB for the Volunteers but is expected to move to wide receiver for the Hokies.

He comes to Virginia Tech after spending the past six seasons at Wake Forest during which he had 102 catches for 1,853 yards and 13 touchdowns in only 33 games. He was limited to eight games this past season and had 23 catches for 380 yards and three touchdowns.

While he has at least one year of eligibility remaining, it seems very likely that he could appeal for an additional medical redshirt to get a second year since he redshirted in 2019, had a free year in 2020, and then missed both 2021 and 2023 due to injury. Of course, reporting that Greene only has one year left could be because he's planning on moving on after this year regardless, but that's unknown.

Regardless, the 6'2'' Greene is a solid veteran addition for the Hokies who immediately can be expected to battle Keylen Adams and Chanz Wiggins for an outside starting job opposite Ayden Greene. Of course, the versatility of guys like Ayden Greene and Adams to work in the slot means that the likely Tech's starting WR trio for the Hokies as of now is Ayden Greene, Donavon Greene, and Adams.

With Donavon Greene on board, the Hokies likely are done at WR though making that assumption still seems a tad risky with JMU's slot WR/KR Cam Ross visiting today. However, getting Greene on board may change the math unless the focus with Ross is him as a kick returner and providing additional slot WR depth.
