After their best season in over a decade, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team received some surprising news today as soon-to-be junior guard Dara Mabrey announced that she is entering the transfer portal.

Mabrey had a solid sophomore season averaging 11.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while starting all 30 games. Mabrey's shooting numbers were down from her freshman season as she shot 39.3% from the field and 36.4% from three as a sophomore after shooting 44.2% from the field and 46.2% from three as a freshman.
There is no doubt that Mabrey will be a popular target among top women's basketball with Kenny Brooks and his staff likely to push hard to see if they can convince Mabrey to stay in Blacksburg.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
