2022 NCAA Tournament Projections For Virginia Tech Men's Basketball

Instead of wondering whether they will be in the 2022 NCAA Tournament or not today, Virginia Tech settled that yesterday evening clinching an automatic bid by winning their first ACC Tournament title ever via a 82-67 victory over #7 Duke.

Now, the Hokies will be waiting to see where they will be seeded with a range of opinions given their fascinating resume that has strong predictive metrics, 3 Q1 wins now after entering the week with only 1 including signature wins over Duke and UNC, a couple bad losses, a solid strength of schedule, and not so good results-based metrics.

So where do some of the most prominent bracketologists currently have the Hokies seeded? Here's a rundown as of mid-afternoon on Selection Sunday.

Virginia Tech seems most likely to land as a 10 or 11 seed with a 12 seed seeming unlikely at this point given Tech's strong predictive metrics along with the recent surge including the big wins over Duke, UNC, and Notre Dame in the past few days. A 9 seed also seems out of reach at this point given how Tech only has 3 Q1 wins, weak results-based metrics, and 2 Q3 losses though it can't be ruled out.

One of the interesting factors with Tech being a 10 or 11 seed is the fact that if Tech lands on those two seed lines, they have the best chances at their first and second round games being at the two closest sites to Blacksburg: Greenville, SC and Pittsburgh.

Of course, most Hokie fans are probably very relieved to know that the Hokies have an automatic bid and won't have to be sweating it out this evening especially after Richmond stole a bid this afternoon with their A-10 Tournament final victory over Davidson.
