The transfer portal may not fully open till December 9th, but the portal cycle is already in full swing with those who can enter early jumping in and many starting to declare their intentions to jump in. So as Virginia Tech and every other school prepares for the transfer portal season, I'm going to dive into the portal outlook for the Hokies. After starting on the offensive side earlier this week, we're now going to dive into the defensive side of the ball including where the biggest needs are, what type of players the Hokies may look for, and who are names I'm monitoring.
So let's jump in on the defensive side of things for the Hokies.
Defensive End
Virginia Tech's defensive end room will be headed for some change with starters Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Cole Nelson both running out of eligibility. Keyshawn Burgos is ready to step into a full-time starting role while both Aycen Stevens and Jason Abbey have shown lots of potential in limited work and seem ready to break into the rotation. There are also some other veterans hanging around including CJ McCray and Jorden McDonald but their shrinking roles
However, the Hokies could use at least one premium defensive end this cycle to replace what they are losing, and possibly a second to provide depth at minimum if not push for a starting job.
One name to watch will be Kent State's Kameron Olds. The Richmond native was originally committed to Virginia Tech as a PWO before prepping for a year and landing a scholarship at Buffalo.
This is a great article and informative. Thank you!
