One of the biggest stories around Virginia Tech's football program remains Brent Pry's ongoing search for his next defensive coordinator. During the Duke's Mayo Bowl Media Day, Pry shared plenty of insight on the status of the search and where things are at in terms of the hiring process.

"Pretty far down the road. A lot of phone calls. A couple of Zooms. We’ll get on the other side of this bowl game and there’ll be some in-person meetings," Pry said.

There's plenty who have wondered whether Bud Foster himself could make a return to the sideline as the Hokies' defensive coordinator especially with Foster helping out with bowl prep. That will not be the case for Foster, though Pry did say that Foster will be continuing on in an advisory role going forward past the bowl game.

"He’s not going to be the defensive coordinator. We’ve put that rest. He’s going to be involved in an advisory role (going forward). In some way, shape, or form; Bud’s going to be part of our defense," Pry said.

There's also been talk about whether the Hokies may be waiting on a coach on a team that's still playing in the playoffs or a bowl game. Penn State co-DC Anthony Poindexter has been a popular name speculated by fans given that Pry and Poindexter coached together at PSU in 2021.
