DB Devin Taylor Leaves the Virginia Tech Football Program

Devin Taylor 1 VT Wake 2020 From ACC

Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente announced today that defensive back Devin Taylor has left the football program.

Fuente did not give much insight into why Taylor chose to leave Virginia Tech adding that this was something that had happened over the past few days. It seems like a safe assumption that Taylor will look to transfer elsewhere rather than shift fully to 2022 NFL Draft prep.

Taylor transferred to Tech from Illinois State weeks before the 2020 season after FCS football was postponed to the spring of 2021 last year. While he arrived as a cornerback, Taylor ended up being used largely as a free safety and had some success with 55 tackles including 1.5 for loss plus 2 interceptions, and 4 pass breakups while making several starts.

Taylor's departure seems to be a sign of who is emerging as starting safeties for the Hokies with Devon Hunter, Tae Daley, and Keonta Jenkins among the names at the forefront for Tech.

We will have more as this story develops.
