Virginia Tech made their largest splash yet in the 2022 recruiting cycle landing a commitment from four-star OL Gunner Givens, one of the top 2022 recruits in Virginia.

Givens chose the Hokies over a loaded list of offers that included Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, North Carolina, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas A&M, USC, Texas, and numerous others totaling 32 offers including 30 from Power 5 programs.
He had this to say about why he chose the Hokies.
"It's close to home, has a great atmosphere, I grew up watching games there, and I feel like I fit in well," Givens said.
Givens added that the close to home factor was "huge" for him because of the ease for "friends and family being able to come games."
Givens become the seventh in-state commit this cycle in a strong VA class that also includes four-star RB Ramon Brown, three-star DL Rashaud Pernell, three-star DT Lemar Law Jr, three-star DE Kyree Moyston, three-star RB Bryce Duke, and three-star TE Harrison Saint Germain.
He also is the sixth offensive line commit alongside three-star OTs Jakson LaHue, Johnny Garrett, and Xavier Chaplin plus three-star interior OL Johnny Dickson and Braelin Moore.
There's no doubt that Givens is a massive in-state addition especially as the first top 5 in-state recruit to choose the Hokies since Jaden Payoute in 2018. There's no doubt that Tech should be landing at least one of the big fish in Virginia every cycle and to get back to the standard this cycle is a huge step forward for the 2022 class especially after landing Ramon Brown just last week.
