The heat on Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente from alums and fans has unsurprisingly turned into an inferno in recent weeks as the Hokies have seen a three-game losing streak with a fourth seeming inevitable as Clemson is the largest road favorite against Tech since West Virginia in 1988.
It's also led to a campaign for Shane Beamer, the son of Hokie legend Frank Beamer, led in part now by Hokie Hall of Famer DeAngelo Hall who has tweeted his support for Shane Beamer for multiple times, and went in depth in his support for Shane Beamer in a conversation with fellow former Hokie Brenden Hill earlier this week.
Don’t know about you, but I think some things need to change in Blacksburg. #Bring ShaneHome

There are plenty of quotable things in that interview so it's worth a listen more than trying to take out some of the most notable quotes. There's also segment of Hokie fans who also have been pushing for a coaching change specifically to Shane Beamer though the specific focus on hiring Shane Beamer doesn't seem to be too widespread to this point.
Of course, Justin Fuente is still the head coach at Virginia Tech and any decision on his future will not come till after the completion of Tech's regular season on December 12th against Virginia per what we're hearing. As much as some want a change as soon as possible, that makes sense to get the full picture before potentially making a massive financial decision.
However, it's impossible to deny that Fuente is on the hot seat even in this crazy 2020 which has caused athletic departments across America to stare down massive deficits including in Blacksburg.
Tech has found ways to help offset that with $15 million fundraised from donors while also coming from 10% salary cuts in 2021 and reportedly some layoffs. Additionally, if Tech does decide to move on from Fuente, the $10 million buyout as of December 16th (currently $12.5 million) would come from funds separate from that $15 million.
Meanwhile, Shane Beamer has been considered a frontrunner to land the head coaching job at South Carolina where he was an assistant from 2007-2010. Louisiana head coach Billy Napier has also been heavily linked with that opening while Louisville's Scott Satterfield did speak with South Carolina though denied he has any intent on pursuing the job in a situation that has already drawn comparisons to what happened between Fuente and Baylor this past offseason.
The situation surrounding Justin Fuente is tense with that growing more and more undeniable especially as a Hokie legend and NFL Network analyst like DeAngelo Hall makes a call for Shane Beamer to be the Hokies' next head coach.
