That theme of competition has been prevalent throughout the spring for Virginia Tech. On numerous occasions in offseason workouts, a message has played over the loudspeakers in the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility reminding players that each drill was competitive. Franklin underscored competition in his introductory press conference last November, and has continued to make it a priority during offseason workouts.
Brown-Murray said that this focus on competition has been felt in every position room, and that players are increasingly faced with a simple choice.
"You've got to make sure that you're coming out here each and every day and competing or you're going to be left behind," he said. "We have it stamped all over the facility that this is the most competitive environment in college football. Every position is deep, so you've got to be on your Ps and Qs."
