LB Kaleb Spencer Making Strong First Impressions at Virginia Tech

Kaleb Spencer may have been the lowest-profile of Virginia Tech's three post-spring transfer additions given that one was a quarterback and the other was transferring in from Alabama.

The sophomore LB who transferred in from Miami was a little bit of a surprise addition given that his best fit appeared to be at the STAR linebacker where the Hokies already have a high-level starter in Keonta Jenkins and a high-ceiling freshman in Gabe Williams. Elsewhere, Tech had a clear top group for the other linebacker spots which included some youth with Caleb Woodson plus veterans like Sam Brumfield, Keli Lawson, Jaydon McDonald, and Jaden Keller.

However, Spencer was an intriguing prospect in many ways given the fact that he has good size at 6'2'' and 216 pounds, and gained valuable experience playing special teams for Miami as a freshman. The Gloucester, VA native also has a redshirt available to him which had many envisioning a redshirt given the depth that the Hokies have at linebacker. He also was a Virginia native, with the Hokies already having success with their first Virginia native to transfer from a different Power 4 school to VT during Brent Pry's tenure in Antwaun Powell-Ryland last season.

While a redshirt is still very much in play, Spencer is already showing plenty of promise and impressing anyone who's watched him work.
