New Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball head coach Megan Duffy has her three assistants with Kentucky’s Jen Hoover joining North Carolina’s Itoro Coleman and Penn State’s Sharnee Zoll-Norman to round out the assistant coaching staff.
It’s definitely impressive to see the coaches Duffy has landed, especially landing quality assistants from a pair of programs in very good shape in Coleman and Zoll-Norman coming from UNC and PSU respectively. That would seem to say a lot about the respect that Duffy has as a coach across the industry and the confidence people have in her succeeding in Blacksburg following what she did at Miami (OH) and Marquette.
Now landing a quality, sitting Big East head coach was an impressive hire, but Duffy’s resume did have a couple gaps in that she had no ACC experience and she hadn’t really coached in the Mid-Atlantic since her stint at George Washington ended in 2014. Duffy is also known as a stronger coach than recruiter even though she put together some very good classes during her time at Marquette.
In making these hires, Duffy has filled those gaps in a significant way as all these hires generally share multiple common threads.
