James Franklin is making his mark by picking up commitments from Penn State transfers, and Keon Wylie becomes the most recent former Nittany Lion to do so.

Wylie is now the fifth former Penn State player to commit to Virginia Tech, following DL Daniel Jennings, TE Matt Henderson, QB Ethan Grunkenmeyer, and WR Jeff Exinor Jr.

Keon Wylie will help strengthen a position where Virginia Tech has struggled in recent years, and he should be able to compete for a starting spot right away. He'll look to play alongside rising sophomore Noah Chambers, who recently declared his return for next season. The Hokies are losing linebackers Jaden Keller to the NFL Draft and Caleb Woodson, who is transferring to Alabama; this commitment comes at a significant time for adding depth and production at the linebacker position.

This past year Keon Wylie posted 28 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, with a sack and pass breakup, playing in all 13 games and starting in three. His career stats stand at 47 tackles and eight for a loss with 4.5 sacks and a pass breakup.

While Wylie is listed as a redshirt junior, he could find himself with an extra year of eligibility on top of the one he already has with a medical waiver after missing all of 2024 with an injury.
