Virginia Tech’s 2026 recruiting class has doubled over this past weekend with three-star DE Kamren Johnson committing on Friday and now three-star DL Kamdon Gillespie committing to the Hokies on Saturday.
Gillespie is the Hokies’ fourth commit in the 2026 class, joining Johnson, three-star LB Joshua Pittman, and three-star K Will Love. He is the second defensive line commit and first commit from the state of North Carolina.
He chose the Hokies over fellow finalist Georgia Tech plus offers from Boston College, West Virginia, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, South Florida, JMU, East Carolina, and others.
Gillespie visited Virginia Tech last weekend with the Hokies clearly making a strong impression on him to the point where he canceled his USF visit and committed to VT.
He’s an intriguing who at 6’3’’ and 245 pounds could be a big defensive end or could grow into a defensive tackle by the time he arrives at VT and is starting to take the field for the Hokies.
Gillespie has been highly productive at the high school ranks, as he had 61 tackles including 25 for loss with eight sacks plus 10 QB hurries, 10 pass deflections, and three fumble recoveries as a junior per MaxPreps. That’s the type of production that makes you believe he could definitely outperform his mid three-star rating.
