During halftime of Virginia Tech's game at Clemson, the Hokies landed a major commitment from talented three-star SF Darren Buchanan Jr out of the Washington D.C. metro.

Buchanan chose the Hokies over fellow top 5 schools Georgetown, Rutgers, George Mason, and George Washington. Buchanan also held offers from Xavier, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, VCU, Richmond, Loyola-Chicago, St Bonaventure, North Texas, Iona, JMU, and more.
The addition of Buchanan might be the last piece on the high school side of the Hokies' 2022 class as he joins fellow DMV standout and four-star PG/SG Rodney Rice plus a pair of standouts from the Carolinas in three-star SG/PG MJ Collins and three-star C Patrick Wessler.
