Virginia Tech got their 2024 recruiting class going today as the Hokies landed a commitment from three-star SF Tyler Johnson out of Orlando, Florida.

Johnson chose the Hokies over other offers from Illinois, Clemson, Texas Tech, UCF, 2023 Final Four team Florida Atlantic, Drake, Louisiana Tech, Appalachian State, and more. He is ranked as a top 20 recruit in the state of Florida by On3.
Johnson took an official to Virginia Tech last weekend with the Hokies quickly able to close the deal for the athletic wing from Florida. To close this quickly on an intriguing wing who has a pretty solid offer list is a nice little recruiting victory on that front for the Hokies.
This commitment also seems similar to when Tech was bigger on Jaydon Young than most last cycle and landed him towards the end of summer. Mike Young and his staff haven't been afraid to go with their gut on a recruit with some of those working out quite well including fellow Orlando native Hunter Cattoor.
Tech is likely far from done on the wing with another wing likely, and four-star forwards Micah Robinson and Nicolas Codie being among the names to keep an eye on.
We will have more as this story develops.
