Virginia Tech will be without one of its top wrestlers this weekend against No. 9 Cornell and No. 22 Virginia. The Hokies' 197-pounder Tom Sleigh is out with an injury.
Sleigh, a redshirt senior from DuBois, Pa., has put together an 18-5 season so far. His performance in the 197 weight class has earned him the No. 9 ranking in the country, according to Intermat.
His replacement for this weekend's match is Brooks Wilding, a redshirt junior from Upper St. Clair, Pa. This will be Wilding's first chance to see action for the Hokies since the 2015-16 season. He competed at four open tournaments that year, going 6-7 with three bonus point victories.
Wilding will have a tall task this weekend, as he will face No. 7 Ben Honis of Cornell tonight and No. 10 Jay Aiello of Virginia tomorrow.
Wilding and the Hokies will take the mat against Cornell at 6 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum tonight and Virginia at 7 p.m. in the Moss Arts Center tomorrow.
