Conference realignment has gone insane again to a level no one imagined with the demise of the Pac-12 this summer. That's led to the ACC even having "exploratory discussions" about adding Stanford and Cal per ESPN's Pete Thamel which I personally thinks makes no sense as I discussed here prior to the Pac-12's final demise, and here after the Thamel report.
There's many who feel the ACC needs to make a move even though the ACC still is the widely superior conference to the Big 12 given that ACC schools get more money per year, have a conference network, and have 4 teams (Virginia Tech, Florida State, Clemson, Miami) who have played for a football national championship in the past 25 years as of 2024-25 alignment compared to 1 (TCU) for the Big 12.
So if the ACC were to expand, who should they target? Here's a look at my top 5 ACC expansion candidates.
