Wide receiver is one of the top transfer portal needs for Virginia Tech, and the Hokies' coaching staff has gotten busy evaluating the WRs in the portal. That's led to Tech extending some offers out including two today to two of the top WRs to enter the transfer portal recently in Wyoming's Isaiah Neyor and Temple's Jadan Blue.
Isaiah Neyor feels like one of those high three-star/four-star transfer portal WRs this cycle after having a strong 2021 season with 44 catches for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns. He proved himself to be a big play machine averaging 20 yards per reception this year and at 6'3'', he definitely could fill a need as a bigger outside receiver to pair well with young guys like Da'Wain Lofton and Jaylen Jones.
Neyor has already built up a strong offer list that also includes USC, Ole Miss, Baylor, Utah, Tennessee, Washington State, TCU, Houston, Coastal Carolina, UTSA, Nevada, and Utah State. One of the things that makes Neyor appealing to big time programs is the fact that he still has three years of eligibility remaining thanks to the free COVID year in 2020.
This will be a tough battle for Tech to win not only given how national this recruitment is but also because he is a Texas native making Baylor, TCU, and Houston all serious threats. Additionally, high-powered passing offenses for Lincoln Riley at USC and Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss make those two programs major threats on paper.
Jadan Blue is an intriguing grad transfer who had an impressive 2019 with 95 receptions for 1,067 yards and 4 touchdowns proving to be one of the top slot WRs in the country. However, QB play and the offense as a whole declined over the past two seasons limiting his production with Blue having 30 catches in 8 games this past season before entering the transfer portal.
Blue would be an intriguing slot receiver to pair with Da'Wain Lofton for a year and give Lofton a veteran he can learn more from after having Tayvion Robinson this past year. Blue has received offers from Tulane and UCONN per his comments to Chris Hummer of 247 Sports but he also reported to 247 Sports that he is receiving interest from Penn State, Florida State, Texas A&M, and Mississippi State as of mid-December with his offer list likely to have grown since then.
The fact that Tech is the first offer that Blue has tweeted out may be a sign of Blue's interest in the Hokies and could be a sign of their positioning for him currently.
Neyor and Blue are the third and fourth WRs in the portal to be offered by Tech to my current understanding with UTEP's Jacob Cowing and FIU's Tyrese Chambers also receiving offers. Cowing is one of the top WRs in the portal while Chambers chose to return to FIU over several Power 5 offers.
