After spending the past four seasons at his Alma mater Illinois and West Virginia, Chester Frazier is rejoining Virginia Tech’s staff as the Hokies’ new associate head coach.
This will be Frazier’s second stint at Virginia Tech’s staff after he was part of Mike Young’s staff for Young’s first two seasons in Blacksburg (2019-21). Frazier has spent the entirety of his coaching career at the power conference level with stops at Illinois (2011-12 as a GA, 2021-24 as an assistant), Kansas State (2012-19), and West Virginia (2024-25).
Frazier is a strong addition to this staff both as a coach and as a recruiter. He is a rising name in the business who received consideration for the West Virginia opening and seems bound to be a head coach very soon.
In a press release, Mike Young had this to say about the return of Chester Frazier to his staff.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chester, his wife, Sarah, and children, Chandler, Cameron and Courtney, back to Blacksburg,” Young said. “His passion, energy and tireless work ethic are exactly what we need. Chester has a deep understanding of our program’s culture, and his ability to connect with players, recruit at a high level and develop talent will be invaluable as we move forward.
“He has been a winner everywhere he has been. I am fortunate to call Chester a dear friend and am fired up to work alongside him once again.”
