Virginia Tech's transfer class grew a little bigger Saturday evening as the Hokies landed a commitment from East Carolina CB Isaiah Brown-Murray as he announced on X.

Brown-Murray is the fifth transfer commit for the Hokies joining Clemson S Sherrod Covil Jr, Bowling Green RB Terion Stewart, Central Missouri RB Marcellous Hawkins, and Hampton DL Jahzari Priester. He chose the Hokies over Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, and Memphis where he also took visits.

He was a two-year starter for the Pirates who had a strong redshirt sophomore season in 2024 with 41 tackles including one for loss plus an interception, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He earned a 74.0 PFF grade including 73.2 in coverage this past season. The 5'9'' Brown-Murray has two years of eligibility remaining.

Brown-Murray gives the Hokies an experienced starting cornerback to pair with the promising young Dante Lovett with Thomas Williams and Joshua Clarke likely to be the backups for Lovett and Brown-Murray. Of course, it wouldn't be surprising if Williams and Clarke are able to push Brown-Murray, but the ECU transfer gives the Hokies a solid floor at that second starting cornerback spot across from Lovett.

With Brown-Murray on board, the Hokies may be done with guys who are primarily cornerbacks. However, don't be surprised if they add a cornerback who offers nickel versatility, with Tech actively pursuing a few different nickel options who are either cornerbacks or safeties by trade. There is a chance Brown-Murray could slide into the slot some though, having taken just over 100 snaps in the box this past season but only four at the slot per PFF.

While his size would make you think that the slot may be more likely at 5'9'', his background is heavily on the outside and there is a transition that comes moving to a slot role. For comparison, Derrick Canteen had 332 snaps in the slot in 2022 according to PFF prior to joining the Hokies in 2023 to take on that nickel role whereas Brown-Murray only had four this past season per PFF.
