This 2025 Virginia Tech season has been a roller coaster, from starting off 0-3 and the dismissal of Brent Pry, to a 2-0 stretch after Pry's dismissal, and now coming a tough loss at home to Wake Forest.
The schedule really toughens up for Virginia Tech here in the last six games of the season with four currently ranked opponents looming starting with Georgia Tech. The Hokies desperately need to make some magic in Atlanta if they want to turn this season around.
With that being said, let's dive into the Hokies to watch against the Yellow Jackets.
LB Kaleb Spencer
Georgia Tech is the fifth out of seven teams that the Hokies will have faced off against that have a rushing attack that heavily features the quarterback. Haynes King is averaging 5.2 yards per rush and has been sacked just three times on the season. The Hokies pass rush has had a lot of trouble with consistently putting pressure on the quarterback, having 14 sacks in six games. 12 of those sacks came in three games, meaning that they've only had two over the other three.
The Hokies will likely have a lot of trouble getting to King in the backfield, meaning that Kaleb Spencer will have to play a massive role when it comes to containing the mobile quarterback.
That won't be his only concern, though. The Georgia Tech rushing attack features more than King including one of the ACC's most proven running backs: Jamal Haynes.
Haynes had 311 yards and three touchdowns on the season while averaging over five yards per carry. He's had a quieter start to this season on the ground after having 900+ yards on the ground each of the past two seasons, but he's proven to also be more than just a rushing threat this season with 15 catches for 124 yards. Add in talented backup Malachi Hosley, who is averaging 8.0 yards per carry, and you can see how much of a problem Georgia Tech's rushing attack can be.
