On Monday morning, Peyton Smith announced his commitment to Virginia Tech via his social media.

Smith, standing at 6'4 and hailing from Tennessee, is the fifth addition of the 2025 Virginia Tech portal class. He joins Saint Joseph's INF Owen Petrich, George Washington OF Sam Gates, Belmont INF Pete Daniel, and Xavier SP Ben Weber.

The tall righty has had an interesting career and is definitely a risky addition with a very low floor. In three years split between Texas A&M and Dallas Baptist, Smith has a 15.09 ERA across 11 1/3 innings pitched. His most innings pitched in a single year is 6.

Smith has a three-pitch mix, using a fastball and a sinker that range from 90-93 along with a sweeper that pairs well. His spin rates are solid as well. He also recently developed a new sidearm motion that adds more intrigue with Smith.

For now, Smith projects as a secondary bullpen option given the struggles he's had in his career to date.
