Virginia Tech added some more in-state talent to its 2027 class as three-star ATH/LB Tyson Washington out of The St James Academy in Springfield, VA committed to the Hokies.
Washington chose the Hokies over Penn State, Syracuse, UVA, and others. In addition to those four schools, Washington holds offers from Clemson, NC State, Michigan State, West Virginia, Maryland, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and others.
Washington is a highly-regarded in-state recruit who is ranked 11th overall among 2027 VA recruits by Rivals and 17th overall by 247 Sports.
The 6’3’’, 205-pound Washington projects as a linebacker and is the Hokies’ second linebacker commit along with four-star LB Amarri Irvin. He is also the fifth in-state commit this cycle along with four-star OT Junior Saunders, four-star WR Cam Wade, three-star WR Demarcus Brown, and three-star TE Sam Faniel.
Virginia Tech has done as well in Northern Virginia as they’ve done in years, landing now three of the region’s top recruits in the 2027 class. The Hokies have also gotten in with two rising private schools this cycle in The St James Academy and Loudon Sports Academy that are looking like strong programs for at least the next few classes.
With Washington on board, it remains to be seen whether VT looks to add another true linebacker to this class. Given the large volume of commits, it wouldn’t be surprising if this is a lighter class at linebacker but this is definitely something to monitor moving forward.
