Virginia Tech's recent recruiting surge continued Friday as the Hokies gained a commitment from three-star DB Elijah Butler out of Baltimore powerhouse St Frances.
The 6'3'', 190-pound Butler chose the Hokies over fellow finalists Oregon, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Maryland. In addition, Butler also held offers from Indiana, Michigan, Miami, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Purdue, Syracuse, Boston College, USF, and Sacramento State.
He is the 11th commit for the Hokies in the 2027 class and the second DB commit along with four-star CB Chase Johnson who chose VT Thursday night. He is also the fourth commit from Maryland along with four-star DL Joseph Buchanan, and three-star DL Alexander Taylor and Brock Frisby.
Butler had this to say about why he chose Virginia Tech.
"I chose Virginia Tech because of their culture and development ability," Butler said.
This is another strong recruiting victory for the Hokies especially given the fact that Florida, Auburn, and in-state Maryland all had official visits on the calendar for him. The Hokies are also clearly building stronger relationship at Baltimore powerhouse St Frances and turning those relationships into results with Butler being the second commitment just from St Frances, joining three-star DL Alexander Taylor.
Butler projects to be a safety for the Hokies given his size and is a great start to the 2027 class at that spot.
