Mensah chose the Hokies over other offers from Maryland, UVA, Wake Forest, Duke, West Virginia, Boston College, Old Dominion, Charlotte, and Buffalo.
He is the sixth in-state commitment for the Hokies this cycle joining four-star WRs Keylen Adams and Chanz Wiggins, four-star DE Gerard Johnson, three-star CB Joshua Clarke, and three-star DB Noah Jenkins. He is the third projected interior DL commitment along with three-star DT Emmett Laws out of Maryland and three-star DT Andrew Hanchuk out of Cleveland.
Mensah is a massive pickup for the Hokies out of Mountain View HS in the Fredericksburg area. He has been one of Tech's top defensive line targets for a while with Mensah being very quiet about his recruitment throughout his process. He has tremendous size at 6'3'' and 290 pounds that projects very well at DT while also physically looking like someone who could come in and immediately make an impact in the DT two-deep.
DL coach JC Price deserves credit for landing another big time defensive line target who had plenty of strong regional suitors while Shawn Quinn continues to recruit the Fredericksburg area well where the Hokies also landed Wiggins this cycle.
With Mensah on board, Virginia Tech should be done at defensive tackle for this class on the high school front. However, it wouldn't be surprising if Tech looks for a proven, veteran DT in the transfer portal this year with Mario Kendricks and Norell Pollard in their final seasons and Josh Fuga having a decision whether to use his COVID year or not in 2024.
