According to Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247 Sports, Virginia Tech has signed UNLV SG Jailen Bedford.
He is the third transfer addition for the Hokies this offseason, joining West Virginia C/PF Amani Hansberry and Delaware PG Izaiah Pasha. His addition gives the Hokies 11 players for next season, leaving four roster spots open.
Bedford comes to Blacksburg after a solid season at UNLV during which he averaged 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 23.3 minutes per game while shooting 38.7% from the field and 35.0% from three-point range. Prior to that at Oral Roberts during the 2023-24 season, Bedford averaged 14.6 points and 6.4 rebounds in 30.3 minutes per game while shooting 42.3% from the field including 37.3% from three-point range.
He has one year of eligibility remaining as of now, pending the court case right now regarding the impact of JUCO years on NCAA eligibility.
The 6’4’’ Bedford immediately gives the Hokies some much-needed depth on the wing while having the ability to push both Jaden Schutt and Tyler Johnson for a starting job. He’s also a proven player from a very good Mountain West that has had a similar level of play to the power conference leagues over the past few years.
The focus for the Hokies primarily shifts to depth and developmental targets like four-star F Braydon Hawthorne, though there is a major international target that I am monitoring in regards to the Hokies.
