Virginia Tech has had a pair of defensive players enter the transfer portal today in DE Kyree Moyston and DB Jalen Hoyle as first reported by Evan Watkins of 247 Sports' VT Scoop.
Moyston played in four games as he redshirted during his freshman season having an assisted tackle for loss while Hoyle played in 11 games this past season with 6 tackles including 1 for loss. Moyston still has four years of eligibility remaining while Hoyle has 3.
Moyston and Hoyle join the following Hokies who have entered the transfer portal this spring.
Moyston's departure is a minor surprise as he did appear to be a promising defensive end for the future though he was behind fellow 2022 signee Keshawn Burgos on Tech's depth chart. Hoyle was never able to find traction shifting to sam LB some this spring to see if that would be a better fit than safety.
With Moyston and Hoyle entering the transfer portal, Virginia Tech is down to 85 scholarships though that may be 84 if ATH/TE Zeke Wimbush does not arrive till next spring. With the Hokies looking to add at least 1-2 OL, 1 safety, and 1 DE; more transfer portal or other departures are expected for the Hokies.
