Virginia Tech indeed had a surprise up their sleeves for Early Signing Day this year as the Hokies flipped Cincinnati three-star DB commit Jahmari DeLoatch, a 757 native. Kolby Crawford of 247 Sports' VT Scoop was the first to report the flip.

DeLoatch is the fourth DB commit in this class joining three-star S Sheldon Robinson and three-star CBs Knahlij Harrell and Jordan Crim. The Oscar Smith HS standout is also the fourth commit from the 757 this cycle, joining the Green Run HS contingent of Harrell, three-star WR Jayden Anderson, and three-star DE Zeke Chinwike.
DeLoatch surprised many over the summer when he committed to Cincinnati over the Hokies despite Tech being the frontrunner for a long time. He was one of Virginia Tech's top defensive back targets for a long time, so to get his signature now at the very end is an impressive recruiting victory for Tech to wrap up their 2025 high school recruiting class.
He may be listed as a safety by some recruiting services but he will start out at cornerback for the Hokies, with defensive assistant Shawn Quinn calling him a "cover corner" on VT's Signing Day broadcast.
