Virginia Tech is primarily focused on recruiting their footprint but they are also not constraining themselves to any borders if it's for the right recruit. That even extends beyond American borders onto the international scene including the Canada with the Hokies interested in the top 2023 recruit from Canada.
Three-star DE Ishmael Findlayter told us that he has been receiving interest from Virginia Tech recently.
"I’ve been talking to coach (Korey) Rush and they want me to come down to the camp," Findlayter said.
He also confirmed that he does plan to visit Virginia Tech this upcoming Friday the 29th as he looks to earn a Virginia Tech offer.
As stated above, defensive grad assistant Korey Rush who is basically an assistant DL coach for VT has been leading the charge for now for the Hokies with Findlayter adding this on how his conversations have been with Rush.
"It’s been good. He’s excited to get me down there," Findlayter said.
Currently, Findlayter has 5 offers including Power 5 ones from Arizona State and Vanderbilt plus Ohio, Central Michigan, and South Dakota. This shouldn't come as a surprise to some extent given the global growth of American football plus his ideal size for a defensive end at 6'4'' and 230 pounds per 247 Sports for the Ontario native.
Tech has had some recent history recruiting internationally including in Canada though Tech did not gain a commit from a Canadian during the Justin Fuente era. They did land a German in Danijel Miletic while Brent Pry and his staff landed three-star OT Hannes Hammer who is from Germany but plays at Roanoke's North Cross School.
Findlayter is definitely a recruit to watch in terms of an offer this weekend with the Canadian that he feels Tech is "close" to offering him with this Friday's camp being a great chance to earn it.
Keep an eye on Ishmael Findlayter as the Hokies look beyond their footprint and consider offering the top Canadian prospect in the 2023 class.
