Virginia Tech received some good news from a priority target this evening as four-star ATH Anthony Beavers Jr out of California released a top 5 with the Hokies making the cut.

Beavers had a geographically diverse top 5 which also included Arizona State, Michigan State, San Diego State, and Florida A&M. Beavers added that Kansas is still a school under consideration while West Coast powerhouses like USC and Oregon didn't make the cut (though those schools shouldn't be counted out).

Beavers had this to say about why the Hokies made the cut for him.

"I just like the vibe at the school and the rich tradition of DBU," Beavers said.

That DBU tradition could prove to be a big factor with the Hokies recruiting Beavers as a safety.

Beavers has visited Virginia Tech as he was a part of the large California group who visited for the Hokies' special Midnight Madness event. Additionally, Beavers told us that he is still planning on taking an official visit to Virginia Tech which is currently expected to be on the weekend of September 12th around the Penn State game.

Given this group, it seems pretty clear that Beavers is more than comfortable with potentially playing college football away from the West Coast. Arizona State definitely looks like a top contender given their Power 5 status and proximity to Beavers while Michigan State and San Diego State also look like serious threats for varying reasons.

Virginia Tech has already shown recently that distance doesn't have to hold the Hokies back on the recruiting trail after signing Alec Bryant and Robert Wooten and gaining a 2021 commitment from Dematrius Davis, all of whom are from Texas. However, winning a recruiting battle for a four-star recruit in California would be another level of recruiting statement for VT.

The Hokies are right in the hunt for four-star ATH Anthony Beavers Jr as they look to shock the recruiting world and land a big time recruit from the West Coast.
