As the late spring and summer basketball recruiting circuit hits full swing, some new offers have been going out for Virginia Tech including one to four-star PF Jackson McAndrew.
He had this to say about his reaction to receiving a Virginia Tech offer.
"It was very exciting. It means a lot to get offered from this program and coaching staff," McAndrew said.
The VT offer came after McAndrew had impressed Mike Young at a recent scouting tournament with assistant Kevin Giltner making the phone call to extend the offer. He had this to say about his conversation with Giltner.
"It was good. He was telling me how much they love my game and how I would fit in perfectly on their team and play style," McAndrew said.
McAndrew then received a phone call from Mike Young having this to say about how this conversation was as a whole.
"It was also a very good call. I got to meet him for the first time and learn more about him and the program. He again was telling me about how well I would fit in at Virginia Tech and the play style there," McAndrew said.
All of this comes as McAndrew has emerged as a rising player out of the Midwest who wasn't on Tech's radar too heavily till recently when the Hokies were impressed with him. He had an impressive junior season of high school where he averaged 17 points and 8 rebounds per game while helping his team win a state championship.
So how would McAndrew describe the strengths and weaknesses of his game?
"I would say I am an elite shooter with a high IQ. I am also a good positional rebounder and have a good handle on the ball. I feel like I am good on the defensive end as well. One thing I’m really working on is my strength and athleticism and getting that to a higher level
Since offering him, Tech has emerged among the schools that McAndrew "hears from the most" along with Indiana, Creighton, Iowa, Notre Dame, Xavier, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Colorado, Northern Iowa, and Princeton.
So how does this offer impact his recruitment and where VT stands in it?
"This offer definitely has an impact on it. VT is obviously an outstanding program and is somewhere I am interested in learning more about," McAndrew said.
