According to reports including Verbal Commits, Virginia Tech PF/C Ryan Jones Jr has entered the transfer portal.
The former four-star recruit played sparingly this past season, averaging 1.2 points in 2.0 minutes per game over the course of five appearances this season. The Orlando native will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Jones is the fifth Hokie to enter the transfer portal, joining SG Jaydon Young, PG Brandon Rechsteiner, SG Rodney Brown Jr, and C Patrick Wessler. Jones’ departure leaves the Hokies with nine players for 2025-26 currently and six open spots to use in the transfer portal and/or with high school and JUCO recruiting.
Jones’ departure is disappointing given the potential that he showed in the high school ranks but not a shock given his inability to break into the rotation this season. A step down to the mid-major level seems very likely especially given the fact that he’s sparingly played competitive basketball the past two seasons due in part to injuries he dealt with as a senior in high school.
