Dickinson, Texas offensive lineman Canon Boone has emerged as one of Virginia Tech's top offensive line targets with the Hokies being the first Power 5 offer for him. Since then, programs like Mississippi State, Colorado, Arizona, and Purdue have joined his offer list.

Even as his offer list has grown, the Hokies have stayed at the forefront of Boone's recruitment.

Boone told us that Virginia Tech is currently in "pretty high" standing having this to say about why Tech is in a strong position in his recruitment.

"I just like them a lot. They have a great football program with a great coaching staff, and after the remodeling is done, they will have top notch facilities," Boone said.

Additionally, Boone told us that Mississippi State, Colorado, Arizona, and Navy are among the schools standing out in his recruitment with Tech and Miss State recruiting him the hardest.

Canon Boone hears from the Hokies on a weekly basis with offensive line coach Vance Vice and recruiting assistant Beau Davidson, who has Texas roots, leading the charge in his recruitment. Boone had this to say about his relationship with Vice.

"He’s the one who talks to me the most. He just informs me of what the players are doing and how much he wants me to play for him," Boone said.

Currently, Boone doesn't have a timeline for trimming down his recruitment or making a decision which could be good for schools like Utah, Texas Tech, and West Virginia that are showing interest but haven't offered Boone yet.

Boone's recruitment is a fascinating one with Mississippi State and Virginia Tech emerging as two of the on-paper frontrunners with the Bulldogs maybe have the slight edge currently. Additionally, Colorado and Arizona seem to be on the rise with the Buffaloes being an intriguing contender given how they were the second Power 5 offer for him and have been involved longer than others like MSU and Arizona.

The Hokies broke through in Texas last cycle signing Alec Bryant and Robert Wooten and though they've lost a pair of Texan commitments this cycle, they remain contenders for talented recruits like 3* WR Da'Wain Lofton and 3* RB Tavierre Dunlap in addition to Boone.

Virginia Tech is right in the hunt for Canon Boone as he remains a top offensive line priority for the Hokies.
