Virginia Tech QB Jason Brown announced yesterday that he is entering the transfer portal.
I’ll be entering the portal as I seek my final year of eligibility.

Brown is the eighth of 9 scholarship Hokies to have entered the transfer portal this offseason.
- CB DJ Harvey (11/28)
- DE Mattheus Carroll (12/2)
- DT Desmond Mamudi (12/4)
- CB Armani Chatman (12/5)
- DE Lakeem Rudolph (12/5)
- WR Kaleb Smith (12/5)
- LB Keshon Artis (12/5)
- QB Jason Brown (12/5)
- DE Eli Adams (12/6)
He is currently appealing to receive an extra year of eligibility given that his school did not have a 2020 season when others were able to play during what was a free COVID year.
Brown was not included in my previous scholarship numbers or 2023 VT depth chart projections. His departure doesn't affect the reality that VT needs at least 1 QB both for depth reasons and to at least push Grant Wells this offseason after an up-and-down debut season in Blacksburg.
It'll be interesting to see if Brown lands in the Power 5 given some of his success at South Carolina or if he ends up at a strong G5 with an open QB job.
Penn State transfer Christian Veilleux and Georgia Tech transfer Jeff Sims are among the notable QBs who either have connections to the current VT staff or have been linked by at least some national media outlets as names to watch for the Hokies at QB.
We will have more as this story develops.
