Virginia Tech starting quarterback Kyron Drones is out for the rest of spring practice including next Saturday's Spring Game as revealed in a statement from Brent Pry released to the press this morning.

Here's the Pry statement that VT released to the media today.

"Kyron Drones is scheduled to have a minor medical procedure and we’ve made the decision to hold him out for the remainder of spring practice. Kyron has demonstrated excellent leadership and has had an outstanding winter and spring. We fully anticipate he will be ready to return for summer workouts.”

This comes after Drones was held out of practice earlier this week for load management purposes. Drones dealt with multiple injuries this past season, with getting him back to 100% well before the start of next season being a top priority for the Hokies.

Drones has gotten some reps this spring, which will be important as Tech sees their offense evolve some under new offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery. Even with Tech losing their top four wide receivers to graduation, there are still some familiar faces set to lead the passing attack around Drones including WRs Ayden Greene and Keylen Adams plus TE Benji Gosnell. He also has been able to get work with a pair of transfer wide receivers who seem set for notable roles in 2025 in Donavon Greene (Wake Forest) and Cam Seldon (Tennessee).

The Spring Game will now present more opportunities for Tech's younger quarterbacks to get additional reps including backup Pop Watson, who will look to build on his solid finish to the 2024 season and show he can be a proper fit in a Montgomery offense. This will also be a chance for more reps for younger quarterbacks battling for the QB3 job in redshirt freshman Davi Belfort and early enrollees Kelden Ryan and AJ Brand.
