After being brought in originally as a star linebacker and shining as a backup in that role as a freshman, Virginia Tech decided to shift Caleb Woodson inside feeling that his physical growth made him a better fit at an inside linebacker role like will rather than being on the outside at star. That move caught many by surprise but after a full season on the inside, it's become clear that Woodson can be playmaker for years to come as an inside linebacker.
This season was proof of that as Woodson has 72 tackles including 7.5 for loss plus two sacks, one interception, and one pass breakup. He also earned a 66.5 grade for PFF while having 27 total stops which is pretty good for a new inside linebacker.
Woodson had some struggles early on, but made strides throughout the season, with his two best PFF grades coming against Duke (76.2) and Minnesota (71.0) during the final three games of the season.
In the process, Woodson's growth impressed his coaches and teammates including head coach Brent Pry, who had high praise for the rising junior linebacker.
