JUCO PG El Ellis Recaps His Recent Virginia Tech Virtual Visit

Elite JUCO PG and Virginia Tech priority 2021 target El Ellis has taken his fair share of virtual visits recently including one with Virginia Tech last Wednesday.

His one to Virginia Tech went "really well" as he told us as he was able to check out some of Tech's facilities and spend time with Mike Young and Chester Frazier. What stood out the most to Ellis though was how it's clear that the Hokies are making Ellis a priority and badly want him for their 2021-22 team.

"What stood out is that they need me there and not just want me. So knowing that a program needs me is good to know!" Ellis said.

Given the difference of an in-person to a virtual visit, one of the focal points of this time was on the conversations that Ellis had with Young and Frazier with the focus being on how Ellis could make an immediate impact for the Hokies.

"We discussed how important I was to them as a player and how I would be able to come in day 1 and be able to make an impact and produce," Ellis said.

Ellis did get to see some parts of Virginia Tech including the practice facilities and weight room which Ellis did say were "nice" though it's almost certainly harder to get bearings for a program's facilities virtually than in person.

There's no doubt that these virtual visits are a unique part of how collegiate recruiting has adapted during the current coronavirus pandemic. While they do replicate some things that an in-person visit offers, there are some notable differences as El Ellis told us.

"You're not on the campus physically so that’s the biggest piece. It’s a big difference to be able to see the campus in person than on your laptop. You can actually get a feel on if you can see yourself there, you can’t do that virtually," Ellis said.

Overall, Ellis' visit went quite well and definitely strengthened the foundation in their pursuit of him, but there's no doubt that the Hokies will make it a priority to try to bring him on campus once they have the ability to do so. At this point, Ellis doesn't have any schools he's certain on taking official visits to yet though Virginia Tech definitely has made themselves a contender to land one.

Virginia Tech made it clear to El Ellis that he is one of their top priorities in the 2021 recruiting cycle as the Hokies see the JUCO point guard as a potential immediate starter and difference maker in Blacksburg.

The next objective will be getting Ellis on campus in person for an official visit once the opportunity to do so opens again. If they can't, it's hard to see the Hokies being a serious contender for Ellis despite their need to add an immediate starter at PG in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
