Virginia Tech's incredible recruiting surge under James Franklin continued on Tuesday as three-star IOL Benjamin Eziuka from Michigan flipped his commitment from Penn State to Virginia Tech.
He is now the tenth of 11 new commits for Virginia Tech under Franklin, with four-star WR Davion Brown out of Richmond committing soon after. Here is the rundown on all the new commits for the Hokies, eight of whom were at one time committed to Penn State during this recruiting cycle.
- 4* QB Troy Huhn
- 4* RB Messiah Mickens
- 4* WR Davion Brown
- 4* TE Pierce Petersohn
- 4* OT Thomas Wilder
- 3* OT Roseby Lubintus
- 3* OT Marlen Bright
- 3* OT Maddox Cochrane
- 3* IOL Benjamin Eziuka
- 3* DL Garrett Witherington
- 3* LB Mathieu Lamah
Wilder, Cochrane, and Witherington are the three who were not previously committed to Franklin at Penn State at one point. Wilder was a former VT commit who had decommitted after Brent Pry's dismissal, Cochrane had decommitted from Wisconsin a couple weeks before choosing VT, and Witherington was a direct flip from Kentucky to the Hokies.
Eziuka had many other schools involved in his recruitment as well. The three-star IOL also taking an official visit to Cincinnati just a few weekends as others looked to seize on the opening left by Franklin's dismissal at Penn State.
Franklin made it clear in his opening press conference that building through the trenches would be a recruiting priority and he's done that by bringing in five new offensive line commits. Tech seems likely set now on the offensive line with those five plus three-star OL Buddy Wegdam and three-star OT Tyrell Simpson set to sign with VT while three-star IOL Adrian Hamilton is reportedly likely to flip to Michigan.
