Virginia Tech Earns Bid to 2023 NIT, Will Face Cincinnati

Virginia Tech may have missed their goals of reaching the 2023 NCAA Tournament, ending their streak of five-straight appearances in contested NCAA Tournaments. However, the Hokies still have a chance to win a postseason title as they earned a bid to the 2023 NIT.

The Hokies will face 4 seed Cincinnati at Fifth Third Bank Arena in Cincinnati on Wednesday, March 15th at 9pm on ESPN2. This is the seventh-straight postseason tournament appearance for the Hokies when a postseason was contested.

Arguably the biggest storyline here is the fact that this will be the first time Cincinnati leading scorer Landers Nolley faces his original college team Virginia Tech. Nolley was at VT for two seasons before transferring to Memphis for two seasons prior to transferring to Cincinnati before this season.

This is also not the first time that these 2 head coaches have faced off as both had 2 of the premier SoCon programs prior to their departures with Mike Young at Wofford and Wes Miller at UNC Greensboro. Young has the edge on Miller with a 10-8 record against the Cincinnati head coach from their times in the SoCon.

We will have more as this story develops.
