With the busiest recruiting month of the year just about here, it's time to kick off our annual TLP tradition of going position-by-position to see where things stand on the recruiting front for the Virginia Tech Football program at quarterback. Check out the rest of our recruiting breakdowns at the links below.
As always, we will start at the quarterback position where the Hokies already have one QB in their 2025 class, but are looking at adding a second. Meanwhile, 2026 QB recruiting still seems to be in the early stages. However, things moved quickly in the 2025 cycle during last summer on their way to landing a commitment from Kelden Ryan, so things can change quickly.
Let's jump into where things stand for the Hokies and their quarterback recruiting.
2025: Kelden Ryan On Board But Not Done Yet
Virginia Tech got their 2025 class off to an early start last summer when three-star QB Kelden Ryan out of Keller, Texas made a surprise July commitment to the Hokies. Ryan has not waivered since that commitment and has proven to be a foundational piece for Tech in this class.
The 6'2'' Ryan fits the dual-threat mold that the Hokies have clearly prioritized in their quarterbacks with the type of speed that could give collegiate defenses' fits. He also has continued to show growth with a strong junior season during which he completed 70.8% of his passes for 2,110 yards with 19 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions. Additionally, he ran for 786 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging a very good 6.1 yards per carry.
Some wondered if Tech could hold onto Ryan's commitment given the fact that he doesn't have any direct ties to VA and is from so far away in Texas. However, Ryan has visited multiple times in 2024 despite the distance and will be on campus for his official visit on June 21st-23rd. Even as other offers have come in, Ryan has shown no signs of wavering in his commitment.
At this point, it's very hard to imagine Ryan not signing with the Hokies.
Tech is also looking at adding a second quarterback to their 2025 class. This shouldn't be a surprise given that the Hokies currently are projected to only have three scholarship QBs for 2025 in Kyron Drones, Pop Watson, and Davi Belfort.
The first and biggest name to watch is
Nice work !!!
