Our Virginia Tech Hokies Football recruiting breakdown series continues as we shift our attention to wide receiver. You can check out the rest of our recruiting breakdowns at the links below.
Fontel Mines has proven to be an ace recruiter for the Hokies, especially at his position landing four, four-star recruits over the past two recruiting cycles in Ayden Greene and Chance Fitzgerald in the 2023 class, and Keylen Adams and Chanz Wiggins in the 2024 class. The 2025 cycle is tracking to be another impressive group for the Hokies while 2026 has the early potential to surpass the strong heights of the first three full cycles for Mines.
So with that said, let’s jump into the Hokies’ WR recruiting.
2025: Another Strong Class For Fontel Mines
The Hokies already have one of their top targets on board after three-star WR Jayden Anderson committed to the Hokies in February. The 757 standout out of powerhouse Green Run HS was a priority from the get go with the Hokies doing a great job landing him early even with an offer list that also included the likes of Georgia, Miami, Auburn, Florida, West Virginia, South Carolina, Duke, Boston College, and more.
Anderson is also part of the building of a pipeline at Green Run with teammate Knahlij Harrell (three-star DB) also committing plus four-star WR Keylen Adams signing with the Hokies in the 2024 class.
However, the Hokies are far from being done at WR this cycle with at least three WRs and maybe four being in play, especially with Ali Jennings, Jaylin Lane, Da’Quan Felton, and Stephen Gosnell all being out of eligibility after the 2024 season.
Similar to the 2024 cycle where the Hokies landed the top two WRs in VA, the Hokies are looking to do the same this cycle.
That starts with four-star WR Micah Matthews out of Bridgewater, VA.
