Virginia Tech has lost its second big man to the transfer portal, as Antonio Dorn declared his intent to depart Blacksburg.
The German-born center was another European product that joined Mike Young’s squad last season. While battling through back injuries earlier in the year, he averaged 2.6 points and 1.8 boards in 24 games.
Prior to his time in Blacksburg, the 7-footer played two seasons for the Bozic Estriche Knights, Kirchheim, in Germany. In his second season he averaged nine points and 4.5 rebounds, becoming a standout in the country’s second division.
While his size and height were much needed in the Hokies' smaller front court, Dorn struggled to stay on the court. He wasn’t the most athletic, not being able to keep up with the talented big men in the ACC. Dorn also struggled to stay out of foul trouble, taking himself off the court too often for someone who could match up with the bigger centers in the nation.
His exit follows Christian Gurdak as the second center to enter his name into the portal in the last week. Mike Young will need to look for additional big men in the portal, as Amani Hansberry, who just announced his return; Sin’Cere Jones; and Solomon Davis are the only current Hokies making up the front court.
